War games…

It was meant to be a soft mission, something to ease Doctor Daniel Jackson back into things after his time among the Ancients — after all, what could possibly go wrong on a simple survey of ancient Chinese ruins? As it turns out, a whole lot.

After accidentally activating a Goa’uld transport ring, Daniel finds himself the prisoner of Lord Yu, the capricious Goa’uld System Lord. Meanwhile, SG1’s efforts to rescue their friend are hampered by a representative of the Chinese government with an agenda of his own to follow — and a deep secret to hide.

But Colonel Jack O’Neill is in no mood for delay. He’ll go to any lengths to get Daniel back — even if it means ignoring protocol and taking matters into his own hands.

FOUR DRAGONS

Unable to stand, unable to sit, Daniel hung from handcuffs latched to the top and side of a barely four-foot high cage. He tried to shift his weight, crouching in an awkward position that did little to stop the aches in his shoulders and thighs.

He’d heard about cages like this one. Communist China allegedly used them to torture political prisoners. After a few days, the victim’s legs would become swollen. In severe cases, necrosis can happen to feet, ankles and legs. Usually, the cages were set outdoors, exposing the prisoner to the elements.

In Daniel’s case, the cage was set just outside the door to Yu’s throne room.

So much for scoping out an escape route.

He closed his eyes, exhausted. Other than a short nap in a cell on Yu’s mothership, he hadn’t slept in…

Daniel wasn’t sure how long it’d been. More importantly, he had no idea if Jack, Sam, or Teal’c had any idea where he was…

STARGATE SG1 Four Dragons eBook Diana Dru Botsford

Diana Dru Botsford is a master at visual storytelling. Reading this book was just like watching an extended SG-1 episode, I could see everything perfectly. Not only that, but she nails the voice of the SG-1 franchise. The character dialogue was so spot on that I could hear the actors' voices in my head saying the lines. If you're looking for an authentic SG-1 experience, this book is it!

This is set in the seventh season (a favorite of mine!) in an especially poignant time for team dynamics with Daniel's recent return from Ascension laying the backdrop. The author delves deep into the characters' psyches and really explores the relationship between Daniel and Jack, and the strong emotions Jack has for each of his team members.

She does a great job of balancing edge of your seat action with character-driven storytelling and creates something greater than the sum of its parts. This book is a MUST for any SG-1 fans! Highly recommended.

I am heading right over to buy her next SG-1 novel, The Drift, right now!STARGATE SG-1: The Drift

STARGATE SG1 Four Dragons eBook Diana Dru Botsford Reviews

I agree with the two (at this point) one star reviews already placed.

Jack didn't act like Jack at all
Bra Tac didn't act like Bra Tac at all

The storyline was pretty unbelievable and it's the only stargate book I've read that I didn't get some enjoyment out of.

The tokra were more helpful than usual.
There is always some gotchya involved when they help and an unmentioned obstacle that none of the tok ra knew about, but not in this book, they were all help and no hindrance.

Also, maybe I'm not getting something, but was there supposed to be some real significance to the "four Dragons" more than their use in the bit with Yu? (trying to be vague to not have spoilers). It seemed the story could have been called "white and black stones" and omitted the dragons from the title and the story text entirely.

At this point, I'm pretty doubtful that I'll be buying "The Drift" which the author mentions at the end of the book.
"The story continues in STARGATE SG-1 The Drift"

Tony!
The author's Yu is not quite the Yu of the series, which throws me a bit. But overall, the story was interesting and enjoyable.
I can't fault this book, it was exciting from beginning to end, the characters were themselves, even when we should have thought they weren't, could see through the ploy, it was to be expected from SG-1, they don't bend down to anyone especially when one of them is in danger. if they did I would be disgusted. Daniel was in trouble and the team were getting him back no matter what. I'd recommend it to anyone that enjoys Stargate SG1
This story started out well but was undermined by multiple character inconsistencies, lack of research and an abrupt end without real resolution. Author #maileditin
I fully enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading I did not want to stop. I was trying to find out what was going to happen next. The ending was a huge surprise to me I loved the way the book ended and I am looking forward to the next book to follow this book in the series.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I purchased this book, I had never read a Stargate novel before, but was always and still am, a huge fan of the series. This book takes a detailed look into Daniels state of mind after being returned from being an ascended being and after visiting an off world site with Asian artifacts. Daniel is captured by Lord Yu and forced to play a game reminiscent of go. This book gave some deep insight into inner workings of Lord Yu and why he always seemed... well helpful is not the right word, but less antagonistic towards the SG-1 team than the rest of system lords.

I did enjoy reading Four Dragons. Though for future reference... it's repository of knowledge

Overall, an excellent read and well worth the 7.99 I paid for it.
As people probably could tell by my bad review of the other Stargate novel released with this one, I had to take some time to let the taste wash out of my mouth before I risked reading another novel. I wish I hadn't. This book made up for all the problems in the other one, in spades. It gave us some great character development, good insights into the characters, an interesting exploration into one of the most enigmatic System Lords (he's our friend except when he isn't, except he's kind of friendly then, too).

It was a huge relief when I realized that it was 130 in the morning and I didn't want to stop reading. I had to know what happened next. Closing the book to go to bed was like stopping in the middle of an episode.

There were problems with the book, but they were far too minor to pick on here. An occasional typo, possible out-of-character dialogue (there were moments when Jack seemed a little too obnoxious... closer to Gregory House than Jack O'Neill, but his situation could explain that away), but nothing that made me want to drop the book.

This book made me want to break out my DVDs and rewatch every episode she referenced. There were scenes I remembered, but the book made me itch to actually see it again. And in an amazing move, she actually took what could have been considered a plot hole on the series and explained it beautifully.

This is what novels for TV series should do. They should explore the characters who weren't seen on the show and give them a turn under the microscope. Lord Yu wasn't my favorite System Lord, and I was hesitant about reading an entire novel focused on him. But it was a very enjoyable read and I give her a thumbs up for that.

The Stargate Novels crew need more authors like Diana Dru Botsford. The end of this book has mention of a possible continuation of the story in another novel. Unlike the Steven Savile novel, this information made me scan the "upcoming releases" at the back of the book to see when it would be available. I WILL be preordering that novel, and any other book with Diana Dru Botsford's name on it.
